Ricoh GR II accessories

Three things decide almost every accessory question on a GR, and all three changed across the range:

• Lens adapter: Hood and Adapter GH-3 — carries 49mm filters
• Battery: DB-65
• Card: Full-size SD / SDHC / SDXC card

Lens adapter

• Hood and Adapter GH-3officialconfirmed fit
  • Ricoh states the GH-3 is required to use a 49mm filter on the GR II — it is the only route to a filter thread on this body.
  • Also required to mount the GW-3 wide conversion lens.
  • A hood-and-adapter set, not a bare ring, so it is bulkier than the GA adapters on later bodies.
  • The GA-1, GA-2 and GA-3 adapters are for the GR III, GR IIIx and GR IV. None of them fit a GR II.

Filters

• Any 49mm screw-in filter (ND, UV, CPL, black mist)confirmed fit
  • Every GR back to the GR II takes ordinary 49mm filters — but only through the adapter, and the adapter is model-specific. Get the adapter right and any 49mm filter works.
  • Adhesive stick-on filters are widely reported to pull the front lens panel off when removed. Owners have needed the panel reattached.
  • The GR IV and GR IIIx HDF have a built-in highlight diffusion filter; adding a mist filter on top is usually redundant.

Battery

  • The GR II is the only current-generation GR on this battery. DB-110 and DB-120 do not fit it, and a DB-65 does not fit anything newer.
  • Ricoh quotes about 320 shots, against about 250 for the GR IV.

  • Charges the DB-65. The GR II predates USB-C, so an external charger matters more here than on later bodies.

Memory card

• Full-size SD / SDHC / SDXC card (UHS-I)confirmed fit
  • The GR III and GR IIIx take full-size SD. The GR IV and GR IVx take microSD — your cards do not carry over.
  • Both are UHS-I. A faster card gains nothing.
  • Internal memory is about 2GB, so you need a card.

  • Requires the GH-3 hood and adapter. The later GW-4 is for the GR III and GR IV and does not fit a GR II.

  • Optical, about 90% coverage, with 21mm and 28mm frame lines — so it suits the 28mm bodies, not the 40mm GR IIIx.
  • A conversion lens or hood intrudes into the view.

  • About 85% coverage with a 28mm frame line and a 1:1 marking. Suits 28mm bodies.

These are official Ricoh parts that fit a different GR. The naming is close enough that this is the most common way to waste money on this camera.

• Battery Charger BJ-11 — fits Ricoh GR III, Ricoh GR IIIx.

• Rechargeable Li-ion Battery DB-110 — fits Ricoh GR III, Ricoh GR IIIx.
