GRfield guide

Which GR should you buy?

Almost every GR buying decision comes down to one question — 28mm or 40mm — and then a much smaller one about which generation. The bodies are far more alike than the model numbers imply.

Start with focal length, because you cannot change it later

No GR zooms. You pick a field of view and keep it.

40mm — tighter, closer to how you seeRicoh GR IIIx, Ricoh GR IVx

Then check what's available

Timing matters this year. Ricoh has confirmed GR IIIx production ends with units shipped in October 2026, and the 40mm GR IVx that replaces it has no release date beyond "Winter 2026 or later" and no announced price. If you want 40mm, you are choosing between a body going out of production and one you cannot buy yet. What to do about it →

Budget for the accessories, not just the body

Every generation uses a different battery and a different filter adapter, and two of them use different memory cards. A cheap used body plus the wrong assumptions is not a cheap camera.
