Ricoh GR IV vs Ricoh GR IVx
6 of 14 specifications differ. Everything else is identical on both manufacturer spec sheets.
What the differences mean
- This is mainly a lens decision, not a camera decision. The Ricoh GR IV is the wider of the two; the Ricoh GR IVx is tighter and sits closer to how people naturally see. Neither zooms — you pick one focal length and live with it.
- Only the Ricoh GR IVx records 4K. If video matters at all, this is the deciding row; if you only shoot stills, ignore it.
- Crop steps differ (Ricoh GR IV: OFF / 35mm / 50mm; Ricoh GR IVx: OFF / 50mm / 71mm). These are sensor crops, not a zoom — you lose pixels in exchange for tighter framing.
- Close-focus differs (Ricoh GR IV: Normal 0.1m-inf; macro 0.06-0.15m; Ricoh GR IVx: Normal 0.2m-inf; macro 0.12-0.24m). The wider body focuses nearer, which is the usual trade for a shorter lens.
- The Ricoh GR IVx is not released yet, and its specification is the one published at development announcement, which Ricoh says may change. You cannot buy one today.
