Ricoh GR III vs Ricoh GR IV
8 of 14 specifications differ. Everything else is identical on both manufacturer spec sheets.
What the differences mean
- Batteries do not carry over. The Ricoh GR III takes a DB-110; the Ricoh GR IV takes a DB-120. Any spares you own for one are useless with the other.
- Memory cards do not carry over. The Ricoh GR III takes full-size SD; the Ricoh GR IV takes microSD. Budget for replacing your cards, not just adapting them.
- Both give the same field of view (28mm equivalent), so framing is not part of this decision.
- The Ricoh GR IV has the more capable stabiliser (5-axis vs 3-axis), which matters most for handheld shots in low light.
- Top ISO differs: the Ricoh GR IV reaches 204800 against 102400. Treat the headline number with scepticism — the top stop of any ISO range is a marketing figure.
- The Ricoh GR IV has 53GB of internal memory against 2GB — enough to shoot a full day with no card in the camera at all.
- Close-focus differs (Ricoh GR III: Normal 0.1m-inf; macro 0.06-0.12m; Ricoh GR IV: Normal 0.1m-inf; macro 0.06-0.15m). The wider body focuses nearer, which is the usual trade for a shorter lens.
