Ricoh GR II vs Ricoh GR IIIx

9 of 14 specifications differ. Everything else is identical on both manufacturer spec sheets.

What the differences mean

• Batteries do not carry over. The Ricoh GR II takes a DB-65; the Ricoh GR IIIx takes a DB-110. Any spares you own for one are useless with the other.
• This is mainly a lens decision, not a camera decision. The Ricoh GR II is the wider of the two; the Ricoh GR IIIx is tighter and sits closer to how people naturally see. Neither zooms — you pick one focal length and live with it.
• Top ISO differs: the Ricoh GR IIIx reaches 102400 against 25600. Treat the headline number with scepticism — the top stop of any ISO range is a marketing figure.
• Crop steps differ (Ricoh GR II: 35mm / 47mm; Ricoh GR IIIx: OFF / 50mm / 71mm). These are sensor crops, not a zoom — you lose pixels in exchange for tighter framing.
• Close-focus differs (Ricoh GR II: Normal 0.3m-inf; macro 0.1m-inf; Ricoh GR IIIx: Normal 0.2m-inf; macro 0.12-0.24m). The wider body focuses nearer, which is the usual trade for a shorter lens.
• The Ricoh GR IIIx is discontinued — Ricoh gives 2026-10 as the end of production. Expect stock to thin and used prices to move unpredictably.
