Ricoh GR II vs Ricoh GR III
9 of 14 specifications differ. Everything else is identical on both manufacturer spec sheets.
What the differences mean
- Batteries do not carry over. The Ricoh GR II takes a DB-65; the Ricoh GR III takes a DB-110. Any spares you own for one are useless with the other.
- Both give the same field of view (28mm equivalent), so framing is not part of this decision.
- Top ISO differs: the Ricoh GR III reaches 102400 against 25600. Treat the headline number with scepticism — the top stop of any ISO range is a marketing figure.
- Crop steps differ (Ricoh GR II: 35mm / 47mm; Ricoh GR III: OFF / 35mm / 50mm). These are sensor crops, not a zoom — you lose pixels in exchange for tighter framing.
- Close-focus differs (Ricoh GR II: Normal 0.3m-inf; macro 0.1m-inf; Ricoh GR III: Normal 0.1m-inf; macro 0.06-0.12m). The wider body focuses nearer, which is the usual trade for a shorter lens.
